Dear Mr. President,

Last night in your State of the Union Message you said, “America must always stand on the side of freedom and human dignity. Always.“

“America takes these actions because our destiny is connected to those beyond our shores. But we also do it because it is right. That's why, as we meet here tonight, over 10,000 Americans are working with many nations to help the people of Haiti recover and rebuild. That's why we stand with the girl who yearns to go to school in Afghanistan; why we support the human rights of the women marching through the streets of Iran; why we advocate for the young man denied a job by corruption in Guinea. For America must always stand on the side of freedom and human dignity. Always.“

You have not done that. You know you have not done that. Joe Lieberman knows that. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton knows that. Vice President Biden could know that. (If he wanted to know that)

Your administration, like the administration before you, has stood by while the freedom and human dignity of the people of Gaza has been denied. You, the President of the United States of America, are standing by.

You are standing with the strong while the weak are victimized. You are choosing this stance. It is the easy course. The difficult course would be to allow the imprisoned children of Gaza and their families to receive the goods that the world is waiting to supply. You should do that “because it is right”.

“Our destiny is connected to those beyond our shores.” When the United States stands for the fair treatment of the Palestinian people, it will be recognized throughout the world as just and fair. This nation will be more secure as a result.
